COMFORM AND SEGREGATE
Corona put up two grand shows of conformation and
segregation. In Asia, the conformation to the old
culture of feudalism of caring, healing and unity showed
its benefit, while in the West, just using segregation to
flatten the curves of infected cases of Covid-19, only
allowed the pandemic to continue prolonging itself.
Then just as the dust settled a bit, the world is flaring up
again with the Hongkong riot in Asia and black's protest
of white's discrimination in America.
One thing for sure, that is we humans are not about to
solve any of the problems we caused. Could the
answers be in the clues of conform and segregate that
Corona hinted us?
I choose to persist in my believe in Corona. So, my
answer is "yes".
Let me first tell the story of my personal, first-hand
experience dealing in matters related to our current
problems. Then I would like to propose some solution
to these problems.
Since 1984, I basically retired from this world. The
only link that remained is an apartment building that I
acquired to keep my wife occupied in its management,
instead of preoccupied in managing me.
Twice this uncut link dragged me back to solve some
real-world troubles. The first time was some tenant
had a big noisy party, getting the next-door apartment's
manager to call the police.
When I arrived at the scene, the place was a mess. The
tenant himself had dosed off on the sofa, stoned drunk,
probably with drugs, as I found marijuana all over the
tabletop. Immediately, I collected all of them and
flushed them down the toilet.
The police responding to the 911 call came just after I
destroyed all the evidence of crimes that have bring
many American kids into lives of outlaws. The other
manager followed the police to conspire in committing
my tenants.
Both of them repeatedly asked me if the kids had been
smoking marijuana or using drugs. Of course, I said no.
Why, the cop even took me out of the room and give
me a big talk-to on how serious this matter was and I'd
better level with him. I leveled him with "I didn't see
anything?"
Now the police and manager initiated a thorough
search of the apartment, with the kids scarily looking on.
They couldn't find anything. The kids was visibly
relieved.
Finally, when three of us decided to leave, before
closing the door behind us, I openly left the kids a
reminder:" Have your fun, but don't ever get caught."
Everyone chuckled and understood what I meant.
My wife had been trying to get these problematic kids
out of the apartment for a long time. A few week
after the incident, they left. And I hope I conformed
them a bit.
Now come to a serious incident. That's when my wife
fired our manager and he retaliated.
First, he came to our house way up in the hill and
pretended a breakin by loudly destroyed our back door
very late in the night. So, we fixed the door
suspecting a failed breakin attempt.
Then this manager threw a cement block into the
backseat of my car, breaking the side window and
crashed into the handle of the other door. We just
went to fix the car for about $1800 of damage. We
both knew who might have done this, but kept to
ourselves.
Finally, not just us two, but many of the tenants in the
apartment knew who did it, but still all kept our mouth
shut. Somebody tried to burn down the apartment!
This manager should have stopped his revenge, as a fire
truck had to be called to extinguish the fire, which was
set from a spot deep under the deck.
But he might not have stopped.
Well, this part is just my suspicion, as my wife was
totally knocked out by the subsequent tragedy. It was
about the sudden death of our perfectly healthy dog,
Cody.
Cody was my wife's pride and joy. And, for a long
time, Cody got along exceptionally well with the
manager, too, as he had been insisting that we let him
have Cody when we shall take long trips out the city.
But a few months before my wife fired the manager,
after someone reported to her about the manager's
unprofessional practices, Cody showed obvious signs of
distress for what the manager did to Cody during their
baby-sitting sessions.
Then, suddenly one night, Cody couldn't breath due to
an expanded heart, according to the doctor. When my
wife rushed Cody to the hospital, Cody died in the car.
Well, it was a lot of conforming, leading to the final
segregation. Had we done anything differently, the
situation would be much, much worse than this already
unimaginable event of things.
Yes, the alternative is: confrontation.
If you don't believe, look at the two confrontations we
have, one in Hongkong, and the other in America.
All the lessons we learned from Covid-19 went up in
smokes. Now, we have almost forgotten that we are
in a pandemic.
I shall, nevertheless, still try to propose a solution in the
old style of Chinese brush-writing, going from top to
bottom and right to left, for future presentation in a
scroll.
